Version 0.3.0 – seven languages, preview and assistant

18 October 2026

Interface and help in seven languages, a preview before every run and an assistant that knows what is going on in the program.

  • Seven languages: Interface and help in German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish and Ukrainian. The language can be changed in the settings and takes effect at once, also for the background service.
  • The assistant knows the configuration, when each synchronisation last ran and what went wrong, answers from the help and proposes commands or new synchronisations. Long chats keep going instead of breaking off.
  • A preview shows what a run would copy, move or delete before anything happens. The progress bar moves within a file, also over SSH. Cancelling takes effect at once and leaves no half-copied file behind.
  • The date comparison has an adjustable tolerance so that files on NTFS, exFAT and FAT drives are not copied again on every run. An unreachable source or target is a warning for that synchronisation, not an error for the whole run. On macOS the program now detects mounted drives correctly; before, every drive counted as missing there. Retained generations in the target are no longer deleted or copied back to the source.
  • Shortcuts, dialogs and menus follow the conventions of Windows, macOS and Linux. A gear in the toolbar opens the settings, windows and tables scale with the screen resolution. Umlauts and emoji in names and paths arrive intact in the configuration and the backup proof. The user of the background service may start and stop it without an administrator password.

Version 0.2.0 – background service for everyone

9 October 2026

The background service ships with the package on every platform, and the configuration no longer has to be saved by hand.

  • macOS: the background service lives inside the application bundle; Start and Stop in the menu set up the LaunchAgent themselves. Windows: the installer registers it as a service and asks for the account it should run under.
  • The background service picks up a saved configuration by itself instead of working with the old one until the next restart.
  • Every change is saved immediately. As long as something is not in the file, the window title says so, and starting the service asks first.
  • The main window no longer grows on every start and stays on screen even when the last used monitor is missing. On Windows, trimming the log file no longer fails while the service holds it open.

Version 0.1.0 – first release

24 September 2026

The first version under the GNU GPL v3, with everything that makes AutoFileSync:

  • Synchronisation from a single file to a whole directory tree – locally, on network drives, USB drives and over SSH, two-way if you wish.
  • Protection against data loss through generations, a recycle bin and the detection of unplugged drives; log, e-mail notification and backup proof.
  • A background service that uses the same configuration and log file as the program and works even when nobody is logged in.
  • Interface and messages in German and English; a summary after every run and a status bar that shows throughout what is happening.
  • Ready-made packages for Windows, macOS and Linux; 94 automated GUI tests safeguard every function.

The complete list of all changes is in the file CHANGELOG.md in the source code.
